Prof Kabir Bala: A Disastrous Administration for ABU Zaria's Students and Staff

In the hallowed halls of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria, a sense of dismay has engulfed the entire campus. The once-respected institution, which has been a bastion of academic excellence, is now reeling under the weight of an administration led by the incumbent Vice-Chancellor, Prof Kabir Bala. With a myriad of grievances raised by students and staff alike, it is evident that Prof Kabir Bala's tenure has been nothing short of a disaster for the university community.

 Erosion of Academic Standards

One of the primary responsibilities of any university's administration is to uphold and enhance academic standards. However, under Prof Kabir Bala's leadership, ABU Zaria has witnessed a steep decline in the quality of education. Despite the institution's glorious past, the current VC's administration has done little to maintain the academic rigor that once defined the university. As a result, students are left grappling with inadequate teaching, outdated curricula, and an atmosphere that fosters mediocrity instead of excellence.

 Financial Mismanagement

Financial mismanagement is another glaring issue plaguing ABU Zaria under Prof Kabir Bala's watch. Instead of prioritizing resources for academic and infrastructural development, the administration seems more interested in wasteful spending and questionable investments. This has left staff without essential facilities and tools needed to carry out their duties effectively, while students find themselves burdened with hiked fees and reduced access to scholarships and financial aid.

 Deteriorating Infrastructure

A once picturesque and well-maintained campus now bears the scars of neglect under the current administration. Crumbling buildings, dilapidated facilities, and inadequate accommodation options have become the norm at ABU Zaria. Despite the pleas from both students and staff for attention to these pressing issues, Prof Kabir Bala's administration has shown a stunning lack of concern, further deteriorating the overall learning and working environment.

 Suppression of Dissent

Academic institutions are supposed to be spaces where the free exchange of ideas is encouraged and nurtured. However, under Prof Kabir Bala's tenure, ABU Zaria has witnessed a worrying suppression of dissenting voices. Students and staff have faced disciplinary actions and even threats for merely expressing legitimate concerns about the administration's decisions. This stifling of academic freedom is detrimental to the institution's growth and reputation.

Unresolved Staff Welfare Issues

The backbone of any successful university is its dedicated and motivated staff. Unfortunately, ABU Zaria's staff welfare has been grossly overlooked under Prof Kabir Bala's administration. Delayed promotions, unpaid allowances, and poor working conditions have caused a sense of frustration and demotivation among the faculty and non-teaching staff. This, in turn, affects the quality of education and support provided to students.

In conclusion, Prof Kabir Bala's administration at ABU Zaria has proven to be nothing short of disastrous for both students and staff. From the erosion of academic standards to financial mismanagement, deteriorating infrastructure, suppression of dissent, and unresolved staff welfare issues, the university community has borne the brunt of this administration's failures.

It is high time that the concerned authorities take note of these serious issues and initiate a much-needed course correction. The future of one of Nigeria's most esteemed institutions hangs in the balance, and it is imperative to restore ABU Zaria's legacy of academic excellence, transparency, and inclusivity. Only then can the university thrive once more as a beacon of knowledge and progress in the nation.

Kwankwasiyya Rubble-Rousing Short-Wave Politics

By Aliyu Dalhatu Adamu Department of Sociology, Federal University of Dutsin-Ma, Katsina State. The construction of 85km rural roads was flagged-off by the Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, on Monday 17th June 2024 at Madobi Local Government. The occasion afforded Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, Presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in the 2023 elections, an opportunity to ventilate his feelings on the forces in political contest in Kano State.  Many people believe that Kano is suffering great abuse in the tight grief of Kwankwaso as an alternate, if not the real, governor in his illegal Third Term. In his emotional outburst, the former Presidential candidate alluded to a number of issues, which many see as pointers to the inner workings of his mind, suggesting his political fortunes in the State are nose-diving or in the least taking a big hit. For instance, from the vituperations of Kwankwaso, one can easily understand that, the NNPP, as...
