National Home Growth School Feeding Program Trains 44 Master Cooks in Kano State to Improve School Meals

In a commendable initiative aimed at enhancing the culinary skills of aspiring chefs and improving school meals across Kano State, the National Home Growth School Feeding Program has successfully trained 44 master cooks who will now impart their expertise to other cooks under their local governments.
The cooks underwent intensive training in various aspects of cooking and nutrition.
The comprehensive curriculum covered a wide range of topics, including food safety, menu planning, dietary requirements, and efficient kitchen management.
Speaking at the training, the focal person of the National Social Investment Program in Kano Alhaji Muhammad Suraj said, the initiative aimed to equip them with the necessary skills to enhance the quality and nutritional value of meals served in schools 44 local government areas of Kano state.
He added that, the selection process for the master cook training program was rigorous, ensuring that only the most dedicated and talented candidates were chosen.
Alhaji Muhammad Suraj explained that "Applicants had to submit their resumes, showcasing their experience in the culinary industry, and were required to undergo practical assessments to validate their skills."
"With the successful completion of their training, these 44 master cooks will now serve as food quality mentors and trainers for other chefs under their control."
The focal person of the National Home Growth School Feeding Program in Kano Alhaji Muhammad Suraj called on the master cooks to work closely with school administrators and nutritionists to develop customized menus that cater to the unique dietary requirements of students, including those with allergies or dietary restrictions.
The National Home-Grown School Feeding Programme is a federal government initiative, under Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, aimed at delivering a cost-effective feeding programme with a specific focus on increasing school enrollment and reducing the Incidence of Malnutrition, especially among the poor.
