Arewa Youths lauds Sen. Barau Jibril’s Efforts to Reduce Cost of Living and Curb Inflation

The Arewa Youths Assembly, a coalition of northern youths, has expressed its appreciation to the Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jibril, for his initiatives to boost the Nigerian economy and alleviate the hardship of the people amid the global economic crisis.

The group's Leader, Hon. Mujahid Zaitawa, said in a statement released to the press in Abuja that Senator Barau Jibril has shown his commitment and resolve to help Nigerians cope with the inflation caused by the high exchange rate of the dollar.

"We have been urging all the relevant stakeholders to take immediate actions to address the soaring cost of living and inflation in the country, and we are very happy to say that the Deputy President of the Senate has responded to our calls."

Zaitawa also commended Senator Barau for moving a motion at the Senate floor, proposing ways to reduce the high prices of goods and services and implement measures to curb inflation.

The statement also praised the Deputy Senate President for engaging with the leaders of the Singer Market Association in Kano, on how they can lower the price of essential goods and support the government's economic recovery plan.

"At this juncture, I want to use this opportunity to congratulate Senator Barau Jibril for his appointment as the chairman of the constitution amendment committee."

"This is commendable considering his vast experience and the role he played in stabilizing Nigerian constitution when he was a member of the House of Representatives"

"We are calling on him to make sure that they come up with a price control commission, a commission that would be saddled with the responsibility of ensuring that government has a total control the price of commodities. This will be the best solution to the inflation and high cost of commodities across the country."

"And also we are calling on state governors to consider distribution of food items as their major priority not capital projects."

Hon. Mujahid Zaitawa called on other legislators and political leaders to follow the example of Senator Barau Jibril and work together to overcome the challenges facing the country.

By Aliyu Dalhatu Adamu Department of Sociology, Federal University of Dutsin-Ma, Katsina State. The construction of 85km rural roads was flagged-off by the Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, on Monday 17th June 2024 at Madobi Local Government. The occasion afforded Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, Presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in the 2023 elections, an opportunity to ventilate his feelings on the forces in political contest in Kano State.  Many people believe that Kano is suffering great abuse in the tight grief of Kwankwaso as an alternate, if not the real, governor in his illegal Third Term. In his emotional outburst, the former Presidential candidate alluded to a number of issues, which many see as pointers to the inner workings of his mind, suggesting his political fortunes in the State are nose-diving or in the least taking a big hit. For instance, from the vituperations of Kwankwaso, one can easily understand that, the NNPP, as...
