Northwest Development Commission Outlines 7 Point Agenda

 By Suhaib Auwal

The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Northwest Development Commission, Prof. Shehu Abdullahi Maaji, has outlined a seven-point agenda for the commission.

Speaking to journalists, Prof. Maaji highlighted the commission's mission to address the challenges facing the region and implement transformative solutions.

“The commission was established with the aim of rescuing the Northwest region from its challenges and placing it on a path to sustainable development.”

The outlined agenda includes:

1. Security: The region grapples with significant security issues, including insurgency, kidnapping, and other forms of criminality. The commission plans to collaborate with security agencies to combat these threats and ensure the safety of lives and property.

2. Agriculture: Prof. Maaji emphasized the need to revive and enhance agricultural activities in the region, noting its vital contribution to food security in Nigeria and neighboring countries.

3. Youth Employment and Empowerment: The commission aims to develop sustainable strategies to create jobs and empower youth and women across the Northwest.

4. Water: Addressing the lack of clean and accessible water, particularly in rural communities, is a priority. The commission will work to improve water supply infrastructure.

5. Health: Efforts will focus on enhancing healthcare delivery, especially at the primary level, to improve access in both rural and urban areas.

6. Education: The commission seeks to rejuvenate the education sector, ensuring development from the primary to tertiary levels.

Prof. Maaji expressed gratitude to Senator Barau Jibrin, who initiated the bill that led to the establishment of the Northwest Development Commission. He noted that the senator's vision inspired other regions to follow suit with similar commissions.

“I am committed to delivering on this mandate and making Nigerians proud, especially the good people of the Northwest region.”

The Northwest Development Commission is expected to play a pivotal role in addressing the region's challenges and fostering sustainable development.

DISRESPECTING COURT ORDER REGARDING KANO EMIRATE CRISIS

By Dr. Usman Suleiman Sarki Law and order are the bedrock of harmonious living in every human society.  This necessitated the establishment of judicial system responsible for the enforcement of law and order as well as the settlement of disputes between parties.  One most important organ of the judiciary is the Court that determines cases brought before it using appropriate legal procedures. In an effort to ensure the proper discharge of its duties, the court gives order(s) to individuals, group, organizations/institutions and state mandating them to refrain or undertake an action before or after judgement. In line with the above, a federal high court sitting in Kano received a petition seeking for its intervention on matters relating Kano Emirate Crisis as the state House of Assembly passed a bill for the dissolution of the Five Emirates in the state where the court gives an order restraining the Kano state Governor from assenting a bill into and implementing the...
