Barau’s Agenda: Rebuilding Northwest Through Commission

By Suhaib Auwal

The Northwest Development Commission is set to be a game changer, directly tackling insecurity, poor healthcare services, agricultural setbacks, unemployment, and inadequate educational infrastructure through well-structured interventions.

By prioritizing security, healthcare, agriculture, job creation, and youth and women empowerment, the commission promises to usher in a new era of development in the region.

This followed a bold and strategic move, Senator Barau Jibrin has spearheaded the establishment of the Northwest Development Commission (NWDC), a visionary initiative aimed at addressing the region’s long-standing challenges. His unwavering commitment to restructuring the Northwest has now materialized, leveraging his influence in the National Assembly and the Presidency to birth, nurture, and actualize this transformative idea.

One of the most commendable decisions in this process is the appointment of Prof. Shehu Abdullahi Ma’aji as the Managing Director and CEO of the commission.

A seasoned academician with decades of experience, Prof. Ma’aji’s leadership is expected to bring intellectual depth, administrative expertise, and strategic planning to the commission’s operations. With his track record, there is optimism that the NWDC will not just be another government entity but a proactive force for real change.

The establishment of the NWDC is a clear indication of Senator Barau’s foresight and commitment to the people of the Northwest.

His determination to see this commission come to life reflects his understanding that meaningful development requires structured, long-term strategies rather than short-term interventions.

The commission’s potential to drive economic growth, restore security, and improve the living conditions of millions cannot be overstated.

As the NWDC begins its operations, stakeholders must support its mission and ensure accountability in its execution.

The people of the Northwest now have a structured platform to address their developmental concerns.

If well-implemented, this commission will not only transform the Northwest but also set a precedent for regional development models across Nigeria.

Senator Barau’s initiative is a testament to the power of visionary leadership. The Northwest now stands on the cusp of a new dawn, with the NWDC as the vehicle to drive it towards sustainable growth and prosperity.

Kwankwasiyya Rubble-Rousing Short-Wave Politics

By Aliyu Dalhatu Adamu Department of Sociology, Federal University of Dutsin-Ma, Katsina State. The construction of 85km rural roads was flagged-off by the Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, on Monday 17th June 2024 at Madobi Local Government. The occasion afforded Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, Presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in the 2023 elections, an opportunity to ventilate his feelings on the forces in political contest in Kano State.  Many people believe that Kano is suffering great abuse in the tight grief of Kwankwaso as an alternate, if not the real, governor in his illegal Third Term. In his emotional outburst, the former Presidential candidate alluded to a number of issues, which many see as pointers to the inner workings of his mind, suggesting his political fortunes in the State are nose-diving or in the least taking a big hit. For instance, from the vituperations of Kwankwaso, one can easily understand that, the NNPP, as...
