APC youth activist Hon. Sadiq Ali Sango, has strongly defended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu against allegations of regional bias in federal project allocation, describing the accusations as baseless and politically motivated.
Sango was reacting to an article authored by Salihu Tanko Yakasai, a former aide to ex-Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, titled “Emi Lokan or Lagos Lakon?”
In the article, Yakasai claimed that President Tinubu had disproportionately concentrated multi-trillion naira federal projects in Lagos while neglecting northern states like Kano.
But Hon. Sango has dismissed the piece as “selective and dishonest,” warning against the manipulation of public opinion for political vendettas.
“President Tinubu is the President of Nigeria, not Lagos. His administration has demonstrated inclusiveness and fairness in project distribution. Kano, like other states, is benefitting from ongoing federal interventions” Sango said.
He went further to challenge former Governor Ganduje to publicly disassociate himself from Salihu Yakasai’s claims, stating that failure to do so would confirm suspicions that the article was sponsored from within Ganduje.
“It’s no secret that Salihu Yakasai was a prominent media aide to Ganduje. If the former governor truly believes in party unity and supports President Tinubu, he must come out and disown this dangerous narrative. If he stays silent, then we will have every reason to believe that he is the one orchestrating this smear campaign.”
Sango also highlighted several major federal projects being implemented in Kano under Tinubu’s administration, many of which were secured through the active involvement of key political figures from the state:
Senator Barau Jibrin, Deputy Senate President, successfully sponsored bills for the conversion of Federal Colleges of Education in Kano and Zaria into full-fledged Universities of Education, which have now been signed into law by President Tinubu.
A separate bill by Senator Barau also led to the creation of the Federal University of Science and Technology, Kabo, transformed from the Federal Polytechnic Kabo.
Hon. Abubakar Kabir Bichi, Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriations, helped facilitate a N150 billion allocation for a railway project in Kano City in the 2025 budget.
In addition, Kano is seeing progress in rural electrification, road rehabilitation, federal housing schemes, and agricultural support programs.
“These are not imaginary or ‘audio’ projects. They are on the ground, ongoing, and visible. Anyone genuinely interested in Kano’s development will acknowledge these facts instead of resorting to false accusations for political relevance.”
Hon. Sango also criticized what he described as “opportunistic silence” during Ganduje’s tenure, when many of Kano’s developmental challenges were left unaddressed.
“It is hypocritical for those who kept quiet when Kano was stagnating under Ganduje to now accuse Tinubu of neglect. If Ganduje couldn’t lobby for Kano when he had access to Aso Rock, why should Tinubu be blamed?”
He called on stakeholders to support the Tinubu administration in its efforts to build a stronger, more inclusive Nigeria, adding that leadership should be measured by tangible results not empty criticism.
