The Arewa Youth Assembly for Good Leadership has condemned the killing of innocent people in Kaduna State as the Nigerian military allegedly bombed villagers during the Maulud celebration.
According to reports, the military launched airstrikes on suspected bandits' hideouts in Tudun Biri in Igabi local government area of Kaduna State, but some of the bombs hit nearby villages where people were celebrating the birthday of Prophet Muhammad (SAW).
In a statement signed by National Chairman Arewa Youth Assembly Abdul Danbature, and made available to newsmen in Abuja on Tuesday, described the incident as "unacceptable, barbaric and inhuman".
He added that the military action was a "clear violation of the fundamental human rights of the citizens and a breach of the constitutional mandate of the government to protect the lives and property of the people".
"We are demanding an immediate investigation into the incident and the prosecution of the perpetrators, as well as adequate compensation for the victims and their families."
The group also called on the federal government to address the security challenges in the country, especially in the northern region, and urged the people to remain calm and peaceful.
The Arewa Youth Assembly for Good Leadership expressed its solidarity with the people of Kaduna State and prayed for the repose of the souls of the deceased and the quick recovery of the injured.
