ABU Announces Historic Promotion of Rahanatu Lawal to Professor

The Department of Political Science Ahmadu Bello University Celebrates a Milestone. Today, 26th September 2024, marks a significant milestone in the annals of Ahmadu Bello University as the 540th Senate Meeting announces the promotion of trailblazing scholar, Rahanatu Lawal, to the esteemed rank of Professor.

In an extraordinary leap towards academic brilliance and a triumph for gender equality, the Senate of Ahmadu Bello University has inscribed an unforgettable chapter in its chronicles during its 540th assembly. It fills us with immense joy as we honor the well-earned ascension of Dr. Rahanatu Lawal to the prestigious rank of Professor of Political Science. 

Professor Rahanatu Lawal’s ascent to this summit is profoundly historic, not only as the trailblazing Female Head of the Department but also as the first female academic to rise from Graduate Assistant to Professorship within the Department of Political Science and International Studies at Ahmadu Bello University since its inception in the early 1960s. 

Since her emergence as the HOD and Deputy Dean of Social Sciences, we witnessed remarkable advancements, special care for both Staff and Students, transformative changes and innovations, and an exemplary leadership style. Her unwavering commitment and contributions have forged new avenues and created an inspiring legacy for future cohorts. 

This well-deserved promotion is a testament to Professor Lawal's unwavering dedication to academic excellence
