Bukola Saraki @62: A Path Forward for Nigeria in 2027

By Suhaib Auwal

Today as we celebrate Bukola Saraki on his birthday, it is an opportunity to not only honor his achievements but also to envision what his leadership could mean for Nigeria in 2027. His dedication to service, ability to unite Nigerians, and commitment to reform make him a beacon of hope in a nation yearning for transformative change

As Nigeria prepares for the 2027 general elections, discussions about the future of the nation’s leadership are intensifying. Amidst the cacophony of political promises, one name resonates with significant credibility: Dr. Bukola Saraki, the former Senate President and two-term Governor of Kwara State. Saraki's track record and vision for governance position him as a potential catalyst for the much-needed transformative change in Nigeria.

A Proven Reformist

Bukola Saraki is not a stranger to leadership. As the Governor of Kwara State from 2003 to 2011, he demonstrated his capacity for reform. His administration is still remembered for its strides in agriculture, particularly the Shonga Farms initiative, which revolutionized commercial farming in Nigeria and created jobs for thousands. Saraki also improved healthcare delivery by initiating a health insurance scheme that remains a model for other states.

As Senate President from 2015 to 2019, Saraki’s leadership brought an unprecedented level of legislative independence. His ability to navigate the complex relationships between the executive, legislature, and judiciary highlighted his political acumen. Despite facing significant political resistance, Saraki prioritized national interest over personal gain, demonstrating the type of courage Nigeria desperately needs.

A Unifying Figure

In a nation as diverse as Nigeria, the importance of unity cannot be overstated. Saraki’s background embodies Nigeria's multicultural fabric, bridging divides between the North and South, and between Christians and Muslims. This unique heritage positions him as a leader capable of fostering inclusivity and reducing ethnic and religious tensions.

Saraki has also consistently advocated for youth inclusion in politics, championing the “Not Too Young To Run” bill. His support for this initiative underscores his belief in the potential of young Nigerians as drivers of national development.

The Way Forward

For Nigeria to move forward, it needs leaders who understand the urgency of economic diversification, infrastructural development, and social justice. Saraki has outlined these priorities in his engagements with Nigerians. His emphasis on strengthening institutions, addressing insecurity, and fostering an enabling environment for businesses is timely.

However, beyond policy pronouncements, Nigeria needs a leader with the political will to challenge the status quo and deliver on promises. Saraki’s political history shows he has the mettle to take on entrenched interests, whether as a governor, senator, or political strategist.

2027: A Turning Point

As Nigeria looks to 2027, the choice of leadership will determine whether the nation continues on a path of stagnation or rises to meet its potential. Bukola Saraki represents a vision of hope and transformation. His wealth of experience, commitment to reform, and ability to unify the nation make him a compelling candidate to lead Nigeria toward a brighter future.

The road to 2027 is long, and the challenges are immense, but with the right leadership, Nigeria can and will overcome them. If Nigerians are willing to bet on proven reformists like Bukola Saraki, the dream of a prosperous, united, and thriving nation can become a reality.

Nigeria stands at a crossroads. The 2027 elections provide an opportunity for the nation to pivot toward greatness. Bukola Saraki, with his demonstrated leadership, vision, and courage, offers a credible path forward. It is now up to Nigerians to choose leaders who can deliver not just promises, but progress.

Happy Birthday, Dr. Bukola Saraki! May your years ahead be as impactful and inspiring as the journey you have walked so far.

DISRESPECTING COURT ORDER REGARDING KANO EMIRATE CRISIS

By Dr. Usman Suleiman Sarki Law and order are the bedrock of harmonious living in every human society.  This necessitated the establishment of judicial system responsible for the enforcement of law and order as well as the settlement of disputes between parties.  One most important organ of the judiciary is the Court that determines cases brought before it using appropriate legal procedures. In an effort to ensure the proper discharge of its duties, the court gives order(s) to individuals, group, organizations/institutions and state mandating them to refrain or undertake an action before or after judgement. In line with the above, a federal high court sitting in Kano received a petition seeking for its intervention on matters relating Kano Emirate Crisis as the state House of Assembly passed a bill for the dissolution of the Five Emirates in the state where the court gives an order restraining the Kano state Governor from assenting a bill into and implementing the...
