Where Is Tinubu? — Ologbondiyan Demands Answers From Presidency

The Director of Media and Publicity of the ADC Presidential Campaign Council, Kola Ologbondiyan, has demanded an immediate explanation from the Presidency over President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s prolonged absence from Nigeria, saying Nigerians deserve clarity on the President’s whereabouts and who is exercising presidential authority in his absence.

Ologbondiyan, in a statement issued on Sunday, September 27, said Tinubu had remained outside the country six days after the expiration of his originally announced three-week vacation, reportedly scheduled to end on September 21.

He said the continued absence of the President, without sufficient public information about the circumstances surrounding the extension of his stay abroad, had raised legitimate questions among Nigerians.

“The Presidency owes Nigerians a clear and transparent explanation,” Ologbondiyan said.

He called on the Presidency to disclose the President’s current location, explain the reason for the prolonged absence and clarify the constitutional arrangements governing the administration of the country while Tinubu remains abroad.

The ADC campaign council also questioned the reported decision for Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, to continue representing the President at official functions.

According to Ologbondiyan, the arrangement does not address what he described as the fundamental question of who is constitutionally and effectively in charge of the affairs of the Federal Republic of Nigeria while the President remains away.

The ADC said the issue was particularly important given Nigeria’s economic pressures, widespread hardship and persistent security challenges.

“The country cannot afford uncertainty at the highest level of government,” the statement said.

Ologbondiyan further urged the Presidency to clarify the status of Tinubu’s vacation and explain the constitutional basis for the current arrangement, particularly as the President has remained abroad beyond the period initially communicated to Nigerians.

He said Nigerians were entitled to transparency and accountability regarding matters affecting the exercise of presidential authority.

The ADC warned that continued silence from the Presidency could deepen public anxiety and fuel speculation, urging the government to provide a “comprehensive and unambiguous explanation” of the situation.
